Contest and a Give Away!!

Now that we've announced we are in the process of baby #2, I need something to call him on this blog. So, I'm going to ask you for your help and even give you great swag in return for your help. It just so happens that two of my best buds (Sue and Kris) have opened an online shop called Kimchi Keepsakes. They have very cool handmade items like magnets, crayon holders, kid aprons, pillows, and jewelry. Some are Korean inspired, all are cool. I know you'll want to win what I'm giving away so get those creative juices flowing! There will be 2 winners announced on January 24th.

The first item is a buckwheat pillow of your choice. Gabe has one and he LOVES it! It is THE perfect size for a toddler. He's always carrying it around and holding it when I get him in the morning. It's soft, cute, and he loves having a pillow 'just for him.' Seriously, every toddler needs this thing! It's also great for a long car or plane ride.

The next item is a fun toddler apron of your choice. Like the pillow, the apron is perfectly sized for a toddler. You can get cheap, junky ones at the store, but these are handmade with pint-sized pockets, fun prints and just make a kid feel special. I've already given them away as gifts. If your kid likes to 'help' in the kitchen, or just play pretend...they'll love this!!

Awesome stuff, right? Here's what you need to do...
You have until January 24th to leave a nickname for this next baby in the comments. Have fun with it! I'll choose one winner based on which name I like the best (they get first choice of prize) and the other winner will be a drawing.
I encourage EVERYONE to leave a comment, not just bloggers and I also encourage you to buy some cool stuff from Kimchi Keepsakes. If you buy something in the next week , I'll give you 10 entries!! Just come back and leave another comment to let me know.
Now, go take a look at what you have to have :)

How about "Little Bitty"?

Hmmm.... Let's see... "Dong Sang" - mean's little sibling in Korean.

Jeez... I am so NOT creative when it comes to things like this. We just called Ingrid "sister" for the longest time. In fact, Olive STILL calls her Sister more than Ingrid. so my boring suggestion would be "bro" or "brother". Neat, huh?
My "creative" suggestion would be "aeggi gom" for "baby bear," inspired by the Gom Family Song :)

Cutler.

Just kidding. Wait a couple more weeks to decide on that one.

IF you were a Cubs fan, it would be super cute to call him Cubbie, but SINCE you are NOT, I vote for Sox. (Sox, soxie, little soxs, etc.) He is going to be a future Sox fan, after all.

And Jeff is going to flip when he sees how many things I got from KK this morning... but those crayon holders are SO cute.

All of our kids have had waiting nicknames too. #1 was Baby B____ (our last name, original right?). #2 was BB2 and #3 was Ringo (#1 came up with that). Now that we are waiting for the forth time I have started to call him Cuatro although we haven't officially nicknamed him;)

My entry is: agigai...according to google translate this means "baby two" in Korean or agi _ (the first letter of your last name.
Good luck on your journey to #2!

how about baby bunny? i'm think he'll probably be born in the year of the rabbit (2001)? or seoul bro? i'm with elizabeth, this is hard!

Oooohhh...I'm not the most creative type either...how about Kimchi Kid or Bee-Bim-Baby (or Bee-Bim-Boy, if you are planning to adopt a boy)- BBB for short.

I love the items on their Etsy site too. I should shop ahead for my friend's girl (who turns 1 in April). I'll let you know if I do.

How about 꼬마 (go-mah)? It means little kid in Korean...if you say go-mah-yah it's kinda affectionate and catchy! =)

i'm a little slow on the uptake lately, not reading many blogs... so this is the first i've read that you are on your way to #2! congratulations, joanna!

i remember, when we were expecting emmett, that one of my biggest worries was about how i was going to have enough love to go around for both of our children. when you go from one to two, from having undivided to divided attention, i think you wonder a lot about enough.

and so, i propose 충분히 (chungbunhi)
which means "enough" in korean.

enough love.
enough attention.
you'll have more than enough.

OK - this is tough! My first thought was to go along the same lines as what I suggested on Sue's blog (Tiger in Korean) and suggest 토끼 (to-kki) for rabbit. But that didn't seem like it fit in with the Little Bit O'Family (plus Grace alluded to it)... Then I started thinking about your adding a "'Nother Bit" or a "Bit More" But that didn't feel right either... and I'm dying to allude to the little bit of rock 'n' roll since that seems so "you" (and, hello... it's part of the song)! But I couldn't come up with anything there either. (Except for "Elvis," but that reminds me of Gabe... with that referral hair!)

In the end, I decided to come out of left field (kind of) and suggest:
"Otis" [as in Redding] or "JB" [as in James Brown] cause I think those could both be considered the King of SOUL, and you've clearly got the King(s) of SEOUL in your home...

What a generous giveaway – and what a challenging contest! I love nicknames, but have a hard time coming up with them…but here goes.

Because I’m such a bird brain, I’m going to submit: LM which could stand for Little Magpie, the good luck bird of Korea/the deliverer of good news.

You have so many great choices here already! I'll keep thinking and get back to you. Great giveaway!!

my suggestion is to let Gabe choose a nickname. Kids are so creative and it might help him connect to his new brother.

I really like Robin's idea about letting Gabe pick-we were talking about your giveaway tonight and my husband and I both agreed that "Southpaw" was the best idea, or maybe "Paulie" or "AJ" since we were in the Sox theme!

Oh my goodness, so hard! Since I'm pretty new to your blog I feel like I'm really guessing here! Here are three that I came up with....Cho Baby(Cho meaning Beautiful), but is very close to Miss Grace's Baby Choi..Or Bo-bae Baby, or Baby Bo-bae (Bo-bae meaning treasure/precious), and my last one would be Baby Sun (Sun meaning goodness). Good luck with your choice!!

I'm not good at this, we just called Aidan "baby", but here's what I came up with:

Brobee (like Yo Gabba Gabba)

Sibbers (as in "sibling")

Can't wait to see what you end up with, you have lots of great suggestions!

I am not too creative but followin your White Sox, how about Little Fox for #2 retired player Nellie Fox. Otherwise "dos" or "deuce."

Hmmm...what about "Kimchi" or "Little Kimchi"?

Congratulations on #2!!!!!!!

How about "Little Guy"? As in "Ahhh! You have to be gentle, he's just a little guy!" (that's how it worked in our house anyway...)

I'll be thinking about it because I love those giveaways. Awesome!

sue said...

i'm lame-o about this sort of thing - hence why i had to do my own naming game!

and it's not like i can enter the giveaway anyway ;). i'm enjoying reading all the suggestions though and i can't wait to see what you pick!

Christy said...

Forgive the phonetic spelling - I'm trying. ;)

Little One - Han Jag-eun 한 작은

Come - Iliwa 이리와 - because you want your new child to come home - might be weird b/c it's a command to use it as a nickname but I like to say the word. ;)

Sweetie - Aga 아가

Angel - Chonsa 천사

Sweet Pea (bean) - 천사 천사daikolmhan kong

I also like pumpkin as a nickname for little ones - but in Korean it's hobag - didn't think that was ideal. ;)

Good luck making your decision! I feel like I should come up with a more creative name for our Little One. ;)

First of all, congrats on numero dos! Second, I like Colleen, have a fried brain but you can do what we did and call him baby (blank) and fill in with the first letter of your last name. In our case, it was baby o. for oryl.

Personally, I like Emily's answer ;)

Oh my, I stink at coming up with witty, fun nicknames! I got nothing. Every time I think I have one, I say it out loud and laugh because it's just.not.good. Thankfully there's a bunch of good ones for you to choose from above!

Yay yay yay #2!!! Love you guys!

I'm just here to say "congratulations" to all of the creative readers of your blog. I love the idea of reaching out for ideas and I was like "i'm totally going to come up with something great" and then I remembered that I'm not creative and freeze under the pressure. Oh the pressure of suggesting a name for your blog...can you imagine the sleepless nights if I had my own blog? So, many thanks to all of you witty creative types. Thanks for keeping me entertained! Can I vote, since I'm not creating? I do like "Seoul Bro"...

Congratulations - such wonderful news!! I am so excited for you.

Your new child is so lucky to be part of your family - I want to call him/her "Lucky"!

OK, I've put this off long enough. I just wasn't feeling the creative juices flowing when I read your post a few days ago. Then I saw Grace's entry (Seoul Bro) and realized now no one has a chance. But here I go. Going with Christine's rock-n-roll theme and a play on your family name, my suggestion is to call the little guy "Ringo". Cori may have Big Star but you can have Ringo Star, right??? Plus it's just fun to say :)

How about "gi" pronounced "chee" as in Chi or Xi for energy flow or breath. Also like KimCHI!

I ordered a custom ornament from kimchi keepsakes for Daniel this past week! I love their stuff!

I am totally no good at stuff like this, so I can't think of anything. I love all the names that have been thought of so far...very creative!
I love all the wonderful items that Kimchi Keepsakes has for sale, but my favorite is the buckwheat pillow. I bought a dinosaur pillow for Devin and he just loves it!
