Here is how the Versatile Blogger Award works:
1) thank and talk about whoever gave you the award
2) share 7 facts about yourself
3) give the award to 7 other bloggers who rock!
1)Grace is a blogger that found me a few months ago and I'm so glad she did! She's totally funny, has a great attitude and her blog is just an easy read. We met a few weeks ago, and she's just as great in person. She's patiently waiting for her Choi Boy to come home and I can't wait to see him in her arms.
2) My 7 facts...
*I'm a descendant of the Ringling Brothers. My great-great grandfather (my grandma's grandfather) was August Ringling. It's a great source of pride in my family, and may explain some of our entertaining ways. Also, my great grandmother (August's daughter) was the first woman to get her driver's license in Wisconsin.
*I played field hockey in high school. I loved everything about it. Everything from the kilts we wore, to the toughness of the sport (I have a scar on my chin where a stick hit me), to the competition, to the great friends I made, to being on a cohesive team, to the life lessons I learned. There are times that I wish I had pursued it in college...but then my life would probably be totally different.
*I studied in Copenhagen, Denmark and Torino, Italy when I was in college. Though both were cool...I fell in love with Denmark. My friends called me a Dano-phile when I got home since I was so obsessed. I lived with a family there, and my host sister was a Korean adoptee. At the time it was just kind of a fact, but all these years later it means much more. I have kept in touch with the Lauridsens all these years and am happy to call them extended family in Denmark.
*I was painfully shy most of my life, until I came home from Europe. I had lots of friends in school, but around my family or new people...I just didn't talk or walk into a room with confidence. Now I can talk to anybody and 'shy' is probably one of the last words I would use to describe myself.
*I worked at the same job since I graduated college in (cough, cough) 1996 until Gabe came home last August...13 years. Nowadays, not many people can say that.
*I wish I could sing. Music has always been a big part of my life. I worked at record stores all through college. I like all kinds and know the words to way way too many songs. I also like to make up songs up or insert Gabe, Dave or Posie's name into real songs. My favorites are "Here comes Gabers Claus, here come Gabers Claus right down Gabers Claus lane." Or how about "This is the dawning of the Gabe of Aquarius." So, you see why it's a pity that I don't have a good voice.
*I make lists of what I need/want to talk about before I go out with friends these days. I didn't use to do this, but after G came home it seemed necessary. It's way to easy to get into the continuous 'Mommy Loop' of conversation: how your kid is sleeping, naps, sickness, and what are they eating.
3) I think most everyone I know has gotten this award. But just in case you didn't...how about
Rachel-Si's Mom
Bekah-Atticus' Mom
Christine K-Joel's Mom
Sarah B-Ada's Mom
Michelle-Jee's Mom

Love all the info!
So many fabulous things in this list! First, I think it is so cool that you are a descendant of the Ringling Brothers. Did you know that was our "Spencer's Day" treat? Second, I can't imagine you as a shy Joanna! Really?! Third, I'm a big list maker now as well... If it's not on a list, it's forgotten. Sad, but true.
How fun! I love learning little Jamma tidbits!
i loved imagining you playing field hockey! please tell me you have pictures! it's so much fun to learn these little tidbits about everyone!
yay! i'm so glad you did this! a few thoughts: 1. i agree with christine -- SO cool that you are a descendant of the ringling brothers! what a fun fact! 2. i canNOT imagine you as shy either! 3. can you do a song with my name? :) 4. this is my ninth year at the same school -- i've been these since i graduated college, too. i've moved around in different positions within the school, but i love it and i can't imagine leaving. i feel like i could be there for the next 20 years!
and thanks for your sweet words -- can't wait til we can meet again!
i LOVE these tidbits! so fun to know more about you :)
"Gabe of Aquarius"--LOVE IT.
I really do love these posts and learning more about the bloggers behind the blog. And I loved every one of your facts.
Your great great grandfather introduced so many kids to circus entertainment! I'm not going to talk about the clowns (because, well, they are scary) but I totally remember going there while I was a child and loving it.
I like your idea of writing things down. I have unfortunately fallen into the "mommy loop." ugh!
I love your list!! So many cool facts about you! I'm totally cracking up at your songs! Love it! I sing all the time too. ( and I don't have a good voice at all....plus I love to make up my own lyrics. ok...we sooo need to meet :)
Wow...so cool that you are a descendent of the Ringling Brothers! And though I only met you once, I would'nt have used the word, "shy" to describe you! =)
Congrats on your award!
You're a descendant of the Ringling Brothers?! How neat! I loved reading all your facts. You told me you used to be super shy...I still can't imagine it!
Thanks for passing it on! :)
Great info! I make up songs and insert my kids name too! "You are my Ella-bug, my only Ella-bug..." etc. :) I bet your voice is beautiful to those who love you!
And the Ringling Brothers and the first female driver's license - how cool!
Love it! Those are all such fun things to know.
Woah, such cool stuff. Thank you for sharing, I so love all hearing about everyone lately.
Oh my goodness, this was so much fun to read! Ringling Brothers, really? Wow!!
Field Hockey? What?! Actually, I'm not surprised, you seem pretty tough.
I'm still surprised to hear you were shy. I wonder what your old shy self would think of you now?!
My favorite fact though is about the songs you make up. Love that!! You and Jason could have a ball making up songs - he could accompany you on the guitar :)
This is so fun! I can't believe you're a Ringling Brother! I may have to start calling you Joanna Ringling! Um, yeah, I don't believe #4 for a minute. Nope. I've met you and you are the opposite of shy. How does one go from shy to super fun, outgoing, talkative, funny Joanna? Denmark did a number on you! :)
Oh and lists? I'd die if I didn't make them. I'm still cracking up over Sue's post where she said that ONE of you came with a list of things to talk about ... and now we know which one that was. Of course the first thing I thought was not "How nerdy" but "I need to do that too!"
Great list!
I definitely can't picture you as the shy girl.
IMO, personalizing songs totally makes up for lack of a good voice. Rock on mama.
The Ringling Brothers?! So very cool.
This post made me smile...and thankful that I have such a cool, list-makin', field-hockey-playin' gal like you for a friend! ;-)
Ringling Brothers?! Wow - that's so cool! I love that you studied abroad in college. I always wish I did that. :) Great list!
Here are just two of the song snippets that are playing in my head today:
"Forget your troubles c'mon get Gabers,
you better chase all your cares away.
Shout hallejulah c'mon get Gabers
get ready for the judgement day."
and
"Someone's in the kitchen with Gabers
Someone's in the kitchen I know
Someone's in the kitchen with Gabers
Strumming on the old banjo, and singing
Fie, fi, fiddly i o
Fie, fi, fiddly i o
Fie, fi, fiddly i o
Gabers on the old banjo"
Now if only I had me one of those dang Melissa and Doug harmonicas, I'd be all set!
Okay. I love all these facts about you, but I'm not sure I can believe you were ever shy! Thanks for sharing.
