You didn't think I'd skip our lesson this week, did you?
My sister-in-law's birthday is today. Maybe she'd like a party like they have for Buddha in Korea.
Buddha's Birthday/Lotus Lantern Festival
Every year Korea celebrates Buddha's birthday with a beautiful celebration known as the Lotus Lantern Festival. Buddha's birthday is based on the lunar calendar so the date changes each year, this year it falls on May 2. The festival is this weekend, April 24-26 in Seoul, but lanterns decorate Buddhist temples all month. On the eve of the festival, there are traditional Buddhist celebrations at Jogyesa Temple in Insadong. The festival consists of a parade of many beautiful lanterns in small lotus shapes or very big dragons, elephants and Buddhas through the streets of Seoul.

JoJo,
You guys should totally go to the Jogyesa Temple when you are in Seoul. It is literally a 3 minute walk from Insadong market and it is unlike anything you will ever see. Truly amazing!
When we were there, they had lanterns hanging everywhere. I wonder if something special was going on, or if that was just normal for the temple?
We saw these two things happening yesterday when we were in Insadong! (The lantern festival was literally the next street over) Since we were there on the "big" celebration day we didn't actually get involved in it too much since it was SOOO crowded. Just watched from afar. ;-)
I love these posts! and just think...someday soon you'll see some of it up close!
