We didn't get the travel call today, so how about a distraction post instead?
Ok, you all know that I love me some TV, but if I had to give up all shows but one, Mad Men is the show I cannot live without. Since in a few weeks all my regular shows will go to the wayside anyway, it's good that I made my choice now.Season 3 premieres this Sunday, August 16 on AMC at 9pm CST. I seriously CANNOT wait and have been thinking about it for weeks. I've watched it from the first episode and I'm thrilled it's picked up so many more viewers since the first season. The writing and character development is superb, with many subtleties, and where it will take you is delightfully unpredictable. Not to mention, the fabulous style (see pic above).
If you'd like to check it out, I think you can enjoy it without seeing the first 2 seasons. However, I highly recommend renting the DVD's (or check out AMC) and having a good ole' fashioned marathon to fully appreciate the show. I've been following this show since episode one as well (I got my start on Madison Ave... so I *had* to watch... now I watch for a very different reason... I just love the show!) I've had my calendar marked for months... and have prioritized it high on the DVR... eek!

Thank you! I was thinking today, "I need a nice distraction from the whole waiting for our referral" & this sounds like a good one. I was always interested in the show, but haven't watched it. I'm going to get the DVDs & do a marathon like you suggest. Ah...perfect!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. We've watched Seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix...and am sort of bummed we don't have cable for tuning in for Season 3. We'll have to wait. That's fine...worth the wait...like a lot of things in my life right now! :-) I am humming the theme song to myself right now.
I also LOVE the style, the clothes, the music, the barware (glasses), etc... LOVE it! Cannot believe HBO passed on this series...I'm sure they are kicking themselves in the tush daily.
Joanna, I LOVE this show too and have been waiting anxiously for the return of Season 3! Great story lines, dialogue and style. Apparently you really could drink like a fish and smoke all day while working in your office. I kinda wish my office had a wet bar in it some days... But I think my favorite moment was when Joan went to the gyno and he had to put his cigarette down in the ashtray right before reaching in for his exam. How times have (thankfully) changed!
