Just like that, Gabe is two!
Here are some of his wonderful ways (brace yourself for some bragging and some boring facts unless you really love him):
* One of his favorite games to play is 'family band.' After dinner he passes out the instruments: mom on the keys, dada on the drum, and Gabe on the guitar and the harmonica (he thinks he's Bob Dylan). We then have a jam session while Gabe sings. At the end he raises his microphone and says "yeah!"
* The one sure fire way to calm him down is to recap his day. I've been doing that for 6 mos, but it still works like a charm. He loves a 'cap.'
* He has a 'movie night' most nights in his crib. He takes his stuffed animals and they all sit there against the back of the crib, his blue blankie over all of them and they watch the aquarium at the other end of the crib.
*Another funny thing we see him do in his crib on the video monitor is he piles up all the stuffed animals and blankets, stands up and says "two, go" and then he jumps and plops down on the pile.
*He is very chatty and is repeating everything, usually the last word in a sentence.
*He loves letters and can recognize almost every one. He'll pick out his faves (B, M, O, E, P, big G) regularly on signs, sides of trucks, book titles, etc.
*Drawing has recently become a very fun activity. He'll 'draw' eyes, trees, letters, etc.
*He's shy around new people, including fellow toddlers. When a toddler comes at him, he does NOT like it. I think the 'unpredictability' of his peers scares him a bit. Are they going to take my toy? Push me? (both of which obviously happen in toddler-dom).
*He's 29lbs and 35 inches tall...approximately 75 percentile.
*He's still very much a mama's boy. He'll stay by me when we are in a store or walking down the street, not in an anxious way though. He loves other people, but it's very rare that he'll choose to spend time with someone else if I'm available.
*He puts his hands behind his head when we change his diaper, in the high chair and even on the couch (a glimpse of my future teenager).
*He's a gentle boy. He often hugs and kisses his stuffed animals, he climbs up on the couch to cuddle with me to watch tv or read a book. He gives kisses and hugs to all his loved ones and he's gentle with animals, especially the Po.
*He has a great arm...he throws very accurately and far. He has since he learned to throw around 11 mos. No matter where we are...the park, his gym class, at a friend's house...we always get a comment. And not in a faux compliment way, but in a "whoa...he has an arm" kind of way. He's equally good at hitting a ball off a tee. Look out White Sox!
*On that topic, he's really strong. He can carry an 8lb gallon of milk, no problem.
*"Bye" is heavy in his vocabulary. If he wants juice and I say 'no,' he has to say 'bye juice' in order to move on. He also uses it when something is off that he doesn't like. For instance, if mom is holding a baby or has her hair in a ponytail, he walks right up, points to the 'problem area' and says 'bye' in a very strong voice.
*Whenever I'm asked to describe Gabe's personality, I always say that he is very much a boy with a soft center. He's brave and tough, but also very gentle and kind.
Happy Birthday to the best 2 year old a mom and dad could ever dream of!!!

Happy Birthday Gabe!
I must *really* love you cause I gobbled this post right up... and I could still read oodles more about you. ;-) Love hearing about all the cool things you are up to! (Especially that arm... can we get video of that... please?!)
I smiled as I read that. He has so much personality. Happy Birthday Gabe!!!
Happy Birthday Gabe!!! What a strong boy! Between the jumping I've seen you do and the throwing and the 8 pound milk carrying, I think you are well ahead of me in any sport!
Happy Birthday Gabe! I love that he wants to play 'family band' -how cute:-)
Happy Birthday Gabe! Have a wonderful fun filled day and year to come!
I think Gabe will lead the pack to turn 2 (of the cuties that came home all within a couple of weeks of each other). I love how he piles things up in his crib and yells, "Two! Go!" and then jumps. Cute. "Two" is D's favorite number too...I guess that is a good thing being that he'll be 2 soon also. I think we need to see a video of Gabe throwing the ball...heading right for the White Sox, like you said. I'm impressed with his ability to identify all those letters already. Such a smart boy! Happy Birthday, Gabe. I can definitely hear the love and pride in your mama's words in this post...and I loved reading it ALL!
happy birthday, sir gabe! you are amazing and it was wonderful to hear about all of the fantastic things you are doing!
p.s. momma -- you need to get the family band on film!!
Happy Birthday Gabe! You are such a sweet boy! I loved reading all of this and picturing it in my head.
Happy birthday, Gabe! We've got to get you and miss Ingrid together someday :)
Happy Birthday, Gabers, and congratulations on becoming a 2 year old...that's awesome!! I love hearing about how SMART you are and all the cool stuff you're doing. But I have to ask, why the aversion to ponytails? (They're no big whoop, really. Mullets, though, now that's a different story. I shudder.)
Have a blast on your birthday, you sweet boy, I love you!!
aaawwww - happy birthday to a very special brave, tough, gentle and kind 2 year old boy!
Happy 2nd Birthday to Gabe!!! What an amazing little guy he is! I loved reading all that he is doing and saying and the fun little tidbits too! Noah and Gabe have quite a few things in common. I truly hope one day we all get to meet!
Hope you all had an amazing day celebrating! :)
Happy birthday to Gabe!! As much as Gabe loves you, it's evident how much you love him in return. This post made me smile because I can feel the love for your awesome kid. I loved each one of these little facts about him and I feel honored to have seen his great throwing arm in person - dang!! Also, I would love to see a video of the family jam session :)
Happy Birthday, cutie pie! I've only met Gabe once and don't really *know* him, but I recognize that tone when you talk about him. What a wonderful thing to have a son. He sounds amazing.
I love this post so much, Joanna. Each tidbit about Gabe is so fun and fascinating! What an awesome kid you have, and you've done an amazing job documenting his personality with these little stories. I love that he's a brave boy yet gentle as well. I love the family rock band. I love the story about "bye" when he doesn't like something. I can't believe he can recognize all his letters - smartie! I love everything here. But you also left me wanting more!
Happy Birthday Gabe to one fabulous two-year old!!
Happy happy happy birthday to one of my favorite 2 year olds!!
I got a big kick out of reading all of Gabe's "wonderful ways". He and Si are similar in some ways and I love that. I giggled at the family band and the "bye" to everything. What a kid! And he knows all of his letters?!? Holy smokes!
YAY Gabe!!!
Happy Birthday Gabe!
Happy birthday, Gabe! You're a great kid!
Happy very belated birthday Gabe. I notice that everybody else's wishes were posted on your actual, real birthday, but this is how we roll around her - a day late and a dollar short. Hope your birthday was filled with all of your favorite things!
I'm very behind on blogs! I'll leave a "Happy Birthday to Gabe" message anyways... I'm sorry it's so belated!
I love this update! How interesting that he doesn't like your hair in a ponytail? He sounds like such a sweet little guy. I love how he jumps into his pile of stuffed animals! Hopefully one day, he and Daniel can get together and play baseball!
