Camp P.T.

Hmmmm...any guesses what was going on in this house about a month ago?
Let's see if we can be Columbo (rest in peace, Peter Falk) and put the clues together: little boy in underwear, chugging juice, fun new toy to keep him occupied, and a plastic mat for any accidents.

That's right! Potty training. I have to say it went remarkably well. We did the hardcore, throw out the diapers, stay in the house for 3 days, no timer, lots of underpants and complete attention on the boy. Gabe was definitely ready, it was his mom that delayed it for too long. Honestly, he loved it...he got to chug juice all day, got a steady stream of presents and had mom's undivided attention for 3 days. He did great with very few accidents and continues to keep up the good work.
Phew, I'm certainly glad those diapers are gonesville!

Welcome to the new world. Isn't it lovely? No more diapers although Colin still sports one at night since I have dozens left over.

Oh WOW! I wish I could say D was doing as well as Gabe. He can do it, but typically doesn't want to...or at least not for more than about 1/2 day at a time. I wish I could stay home with him for 3-4 days in a row...that just might do the trick. Awesome!

Go Gabe!!! And I'm very impressed with the hard core approach you took. That's AWESOME.

(I love the underpants choice here too)

Great job Mama and Gabe! You've definitely made potty training less scary of a thought for me. :)

Congratulations! And, the photo captures, exactly, all of the necessary potty training elements. Enjoy the underpants, Gabe!

Hard core is the only way to go-awesome work Gabe and mom! It's so fun to get rid of all that diaper stuff-and that picture is priceless. Can't wait to bring that out when he's in high school!

Fantastic job!!! Easel and tarp sound like perfect supplies!

Ok, but tell me honestly, when you go on a trip in the car, or downtown and have to rely on public bathrooms, is there just a smidge of missing those diapers? I'm coming to terms with this myself

I'm giggling at the difference in the two posts I'm commenting on. Although this one is not *quite* as exciting as the one I just read (ahem), it is still a huge milestone for Gabe and I'm so proud of him. I think when our time comes (like when Max is in second grade), I will use your approach. Don't be surprised if I'm calling for consults on a regular basis, my friend.

Update...things are going much better in our house with this task. We were able to hang home a lot over the past two weekends and that helped. D even wore big-boy underpants to school this week! It has been a little harder for him there (2 accidents the first day and 1 yesterday), but there are a lot more distractions there.
