A Day at the Fair

Yesterday we headed up to West Allis, WI for the Wisconsin State Fair. Coincidentally, both Dave and I went there was kids every year. So, it was a thrill to be able to take our son this year. Gabe seemed to really enjoy himself, particularly the animals. When we were walking through the cow barn, he would say 'moooo.' When we hit the sheep barn, he seemed to look up at me like 'wow, they really do say bahhh.' It was so neat to actually show him these animals we have talked about that aren't at the zoo.
We had to do a lot of eating. Obviously, the residents of Wisconsin love their dairy. Only in WI is there a loooonnng line for a glass of milk. It is flavored (cherry, banana, root beer, strawberry) and it is only .25 cents, so that does add to the appeal. We also chowed down on pork sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches, corn on the cob, fried cheese curds, and of course the world famous cream puffs.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to meet up with a new blog friend, Grace, who was also at the fair. Gabe and I had met her in the city on Thursday and had a great time! Gabe took to her right away, which doesn't usually happen when he meets new people. He was smiling and playing with her and showing her all his tricks. She is obviously a natural! Grace and her husband are waiting for their adorable son to come home from Korea. We chatted about all things Korean, adoption, what to expect, what not to, and just got to know each other. I knew we would click (I mean, her blog title is a pun too!) and we did. She is funny, has a good perspective, stylish, and easy to talk to. Yay for new friends! Boo that sometimes they live far away.

I Love My Hanbok

As you may know from a previous post, we hang Gabe's Hanbok in his room on the wall. About 2 weeks ago, he started to pointing to it and then to himself. We figured out that he wanted to wear it. I think he was a bit confused as to why clothing was hanging on the wall. When I take it down he starts to laugh and say 'ooooo.' Then when it's time to put it back he claps and says 'bye-bye Han-ba.' He loves to put it on and then admire himself in the mirror. Who can blame him really? It's gorgeous and I bet it IS fun to wear. He only wears it for about 15 minutes at a time, and he knows that he can't eat or drink in it.

Getting a good picture with a toddler ain't an easy task. Gabe handed me the camera the other day and wanted to take a picture. Thinking he was 'in the mood', we handed the camera off to Christine thinking we could get a keeper. This is how it went...

A White Sox Winner!

We took Gabe to his first White Sox game last night. He was very excited when we first got to the stadium with lots o' clapping and saying 'ooooo.' The excitement continued inside the ball park. He kept reaching towards the field and saying 'down.' Apparently, he'd rather be playing baseball than watching it. Thankfully we were in a sky box which made an evening baseball game with a toddler a lot easier. He came home with a souvenir baseball that we bought and a certificate from the Sox commemorating his first game. So far Gabe's record at The Cell is 1-0. Let's see how long he can continue his perfect record.

Twins?

Many times when we are out with another family with at Korean babe, we often get the comment, "are they twins?" I have to admit that this one bugs me a bit. There are two moms and two kids...no they are not twins just because they 'look' alike. We are not their babysitters. I think people's minds can't always process the group, so they just spit out what they think makes sense.
Yesterday, Gabe and I met up with Joel and Christine to enjoy the Morton Arboretum. It's a great place for kids and adults. They have lovely grounds and it's easy to get around. But since G&J were coincidentally wearing the same shirt and are only 3 days apart...we knew the twin comment over/under would be high. In the end we only got 3 comments, but we took it in all in stride. I know you savvy LBOS readers will be able to tell them apart though.

Pool Party!

It's always nice to have family that have a pool. It's even better when they invite you over to have a nice lunch, invite friends and have a good ole' summer pool party. Dave's aunt and uncle invited us for a lovely afternoon of chattin', splashin' and eatin'. And that's just what we did...
